REVIEWS

Dar El Pacha is a very relaxed and lovely place, it is in the middle of Essaouira where there are a lot of things happening. The rooms are in Essaouira style. Our host was friendly and kind to us. We stayed for a weekend, but this place makes you want to stay more. I go back that's sure!

Youness (Party of Three)

I stayed at Dar El Pacha for 4 nights. I was traveling by myself so Ben upgraded me to a double room which I occupied alone for the same price as the dorm rooms.
I spent much time chilling with many different travelers and the hosts in the common area downstairs. There is a big kitchen that everyone can use, a common computer with internet access, a pool table and some couches and tables to hang out.
In the evening I liked to relax on the roof terrace and watch the sunset.
All in all the atmosphere at the Dar el Pacha was very friendly and relaxed.
The hostel itself is very well kept, clean and friendly. The hosts especially Ben makes a great effort to fix the place up. In the past couple of months that he has been manager the place has really come together. The location, an old Riad in the centre of Essaouira, is a beautiful building that serves well as a place to meet people and relax.
In comparison to many other hostels I stayed at, the breakfast was great and the wifi was working great.

Very
really cool hostel. Stayed here for a week and it flew by. Really chilled out vibe, perfect place for travelers to hang out. Got a nice pool table and other nice touches as well. the building its self is fully Moroccan. Had some good chats with staff . Defo recommend.

Ben and his mother were super nice and make you feel at home. It's so nice to see what you can in a short period - although there is still some work to be done . The hostel is spacious and has a nice roof terrace with sea views and the city . The location is also perfect. It's a bit noisy and like I said, not perfect , but for the super low price, the nice people and the breakfast (with toasted bread !!) that's fine

Tessa

Nice Hostel! i would say it is too cheap to be true.

Me
and my boyfriend stayed for one night at Ben and Jean's new hostel. The place was full of life with a very welcoming atmosphere. You get a very good value stay for the price they offer with a free breakfast. Our hosts went out of their way to make our stay smooth and relaxing. They were also fully flexible with our arrival and departure. A great place to put your money into and support this new project.

The Riad is really nice and also cheap. The hostel is well located, directly in the heart of the medina. We stayed in a cozy private room with a private bathroom (hot water not working and door did not lock from inside). At night the music was quite loud, but all in all we've had a good time.

This is definitely the best hostel I have stayed in for the price i paid. touches like the computer, breakfast and games really add to your time spent. It is very new and finding its feet but the care of the hostel and of the guests that Ben achieves makes any little problems seem unimportant. It is a chilled out place that needs chilled out friendly people to fill it, who are willing to be part of a family and treat the guests and owners accordingly. my friend went back three times which is testimony to how comfortable the place is! Many thanks and sorry for the late review :)

I have been travelling in Morocco for 5 Weeks and came back 3 times to this Hostel in Essaouira in this period. Why? It´s a feeling of being home there, very relaxed and good vibes. On the one side the owner takes care of the whole hostel like his baby and on the other side you can have fun with him and talk to him like to other travellers. You can play Pool, Chess or just hang out there and listening to music and watching sports. The rooms are clean and cheap and there is a Laptop always available in the Lobby. If you wanna do excursions, just let the owner know its possible to book there, you dont need to find a travel agency...
And hey, go to the rooftop and enjoy the beautiful view!

A good price, basic facilities and good atmosphere.

Friendly welcome. Hostel large but quiet. The rooms offer lots of space. A great value!

Very warm welcome from the hosts. Absolutely consistent with the description. It's actually so large that does not realizes very well the pictures. There is a great top terrace with a beautiful view over the roofs and the sea in the distance. Billiards is free and it's cool! Otherwise everything is nickel, it's clean, the breakfast is good (depends somewhat fairly recurring personnel problems of the hotel, but it is still and will). Framework and living place conducive to meetings and discussion: we had a great stay here and met some lovely people. Again thank you for this welcome, and hopefully soon!

Ben and his Mother were very nice hosts ready to help whenever we need something. The place is a beautifull old Arabian riad with a travelers' spirit, situated in the heart of medina. Just 200 meters from a nice vegan&vegetarian restaurant and 10 minutes from the beach. Good music is played all day long. Nice and very cheap place to stay.

The location is great - in the center of Essaouira and view from the roof is amazing. I felt very comfortable in this Riad. We were there as two couples. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they were waiting for us and calling by mobile phone at the evening (about 10pm), because we arrived much more later than expected. I can recommend this accomodation for everyone, because everything was positive!

I spent 2 days in Dar el Pacha together with 2 friends. I liked the place so much that I stayed 5 nights more in the end.
Ben, Mark and Jean have been very helpful and friendly. The Riad itself recently has been reopened and though not all the work has been finished it was already great to stay there. Wifi was fast and all over the place, breakfast was plentiful and delicious, showers were hot and the terrace is simply amazing.
All the best for you and your riad, I will definitely come back once I'm back in Essaouira.

We stayed one night in May 2015.
Everything was perfect: the spacious and luxuriously equipped, the charming welcome, prices so cheap and more than reasonable..
You can go there with your eyes closed! And we will return.

Beautiful atmosphere of camaraderie galore meetings in this very friendly hostel. The prices are very fair for the frame, brekkie, dormitories and clean showers, terrace with a lovely view of Essaouira ...
The manager guides you worry, is available and will seek to put you at ease.
The location is ideal, right in the heart of the medina, not far from the port, ideal to spend a particular Gnaoua festival madness ...
Brekkie served until noon, billiards available, I highly recommend to come alone or with friends!

Ben is a chilled out guy. Just like meeting an old mate. The building itself is magnifique. Old morrocan building. Great views.

This is an up and coming hostel, it's brand new to the owner and needs a lil work but it has the potential to be great. Ben the owner is a super nice guy and will do anything to accommodate you. I was there during the music festival so the town was packed. The hostel got full and some people came in off the street asking for a room, instead of turning them away he gave up his own room, that would never happen anywhere else. the bathrooms need some work but he had to get it opened quickly

Benton

Ben, Mark, and the crew took care of my buddy Tim and I. We just left after 4 nights and had a really cool experience. Aesthetically speaking the hostel is on point. Great sundeck, awesome and unique interior, and a pool table to boot. They served us breakfast and coffee along with the room and the staff was friendly and outgoing throughout. If I ever wander back down to Essaouira again, I'll be staying with these guys!

i liked this hostel very much, there are extras here I didnt find at other hostels, a laptop for guests to use, a pool table, television with films etc, the hostel has a new owner, ben, and his team, mark and jean, they are all good people, mark makes a lovely breakfast, the hostel is very spacious and clean and ben and his team are always around to help, it is very good value and I will definately stay here again

Frances

I had the privilege of being one of the first guests after a change of management. Ben and his crew made me feel very welcome and did there best to make my stay a pleasure. I look forward to staying again. Ben's hard work will make this one of the best hostels in the city.

My friend and I arrived in the Medina with no hostel booked and no idea where to go. A girl offered to show us a new place that had just opened so we went along. When we arrived, Ben (the owner) and his mother sat us down for tea and cakes and showed us around. The first floor has a full kitchen, lounge, computer and pool table and the top 2 floors have been refurbished to bring out the original charm of the building (now with Wifi). The rooms are very spacious and clean and beds are quite comfortable. There is also patio on the roof where live music takes place. A great place to come and hangout even if your not staying there! Originally I'd planned to stay in Essaouira just 2 days but extended it to a week.

Rob

Great riad in a a great location. Ben and Mark were hospitable and made us feel like we'd come "home". Fantastic terrace and ambience from the sound system in the hall throughout the day.

Megan

I wished I could give 5 Stars since the two guys who work there are really nice and friendly! Also the atmosphere in the hostel was nice and relaxed. The building itself is very nice and well located. The "Basic Breakfast" was simple but very good. They even toastet the bread which I liked very much! :) Some stuff that wasn't so good: our double room was (in my opinion) a tiny weeny bit to unclean. That does NOT mean it was very dirty – don't get me wrong! Just a little bit cleaner would have been nice :) The bed was clean enough though. The bathroom was also ok. That's more important I guess! What we liked least was that the room felt quite humid. Opening the windows helped a bit but unfortunately it still felt humid. This might have been a temporary problem. Unfortunately I didn't ask Ben. So if you consider that the prices are very reasonable there is not much to complain about :)

Michael

Cheap and nice place. There is European Ambient in there.

We just booked one day before, it was no problem at all, pretty fast reply! The hostel just opened 3 weeks before, so was just not all fixed, but Ben and his mother were really nice hosts!

Pretty, rooms were very nice. Beds comfortable. The wifi is very fast and the free use computer was really useful. Breakfast we very good the 1st day and less good the 2nd but still great (bread croissant jam tea coffee peanut butter). The owners are quite friendly. We were disappointed by the nightly atmosphere: the owners blared loud music while drinking smoking and playing poker. Very weird. On our 2nd night a Moroccan (not an employee) had to open the door for us because of this. Bit weird

My Response to this Review:

Thank you for your review! We were quiet for those nights unfortunately and we had played some games with visitors. Some take music and games as atmosphere others are not keen. Also Mohammed is somebody who is a friend of the family and has helped us settle here. He happened to be using the pool table that night when you came home and was nearest the door and eager to help. Just because I am English does not make it strange for a Moroccan to answer the door of a Riad. Thanks again. Ben
